How Is Honda Championing A Carbon-Free Society?

Endorsing a greener, healthier environment since 1964, Honda has been fully engaged in trying to reduce their impact on the earth so that generations of future Canadians can continue to enjoy it.

Through Honda’s programs, practices, and pledges, the goal has long been to produce vehicles that contribute to a better environment. Honda is fully committed to championing a carbon-free society.

A Long-Standing Commitment to a Cleaner Environment
Honda has incorporated high-quality and environmentally conscious practices into its manufacturing over the last 55 years.

Since 1964, Honda has only built four-stroke outboard motors. These motors are up to 90% cleaner and 50% more fuel-efficient than two-stroke engines. Furthermore, the CVCC engine, launched 10 years later, enables Honda to meet strict emissions standards without the use of a catalytic converter. The converter is an exhaust emission control device that reduces gases and pollutants in the exhaust gas. However, it could get clogged or overheat, which puts your vehicle in jeopardy.

To date, Honda Canada and the Honda Canada Foundation have donated in excess of two million dollars to organizations that focus on conservation. Meanwhile, Honda’s manufacturing facility in Alliston, Ontario has achieved its zero-waste-to-landfill targets since 2007.

Honda Canada wants blue skies and a sustainable society for Canada’s children. As a result, every aspect of Honda’s manufacturing and production is affected by carbon emissions improvements.

Honda’s Environmental Statement Outlines Safe Practices
Honda’s environmental statement outlines its responsibilities to minimize the impact of business on the world. So, in every process carried out by Honda while building its wide array of models, it follows four basic principles.

Honda pledges to recycle and conserve resources at every stage of each products’ lifecycles. Thanks to the invention of Intelligent Paint Technology, manufacturing emissions have been cut by 25%.

Honda also insists on finding better ways to recycle and dispose of waste produced by its products. Vehicles produced by Honda in the last 15 years have maintained 90% design recyclability.

On top of that, Honda Canada’s Alliston manufacturing plant is being upgraded to deliver a 44% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. That is part of Honda’s pledge to be more responsible and accountable for the health of Canadians and their surroundings.

Honda will do its best to acknowledge its effect on the environment at every stage and lead by example to encourage more environmentally friendly practices throughout society.

Honda takes pride in being one of the first North American automakers to gain ISO 14001 certification. This certification meets the international standard, which specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system.

Honda’s Office is Becoming Greener, Too
Not only are Honda’s products continuously getting revamped to comply with environmentally conscious standards, but so are the offices.

Honda Canada’s headquarters in Markham has LEED® Gold Certification criteria as its guide to making more thoughtful design decisions based on sustainability. These decisions include a heat-reflective roof to help employees and visitors alike stay cool. There are also bioswales for natural filtration, which help keep waste out of the sewer system. Additionally, Honda utilizes irrigation techniques that collect rainwater to keep the grounds looking as green and healthy as possible, increasing efficiency.

Up to 33% less energy is used in Honda’s headquarters than in typical office buildings of its size. Nearly all of Honda’s waste has been diverted from landfills over the last two years, and Honda's office uses up to 89% less water than similarly-sized office buildings.

Committed to a Greener Future
Honda aims to have electrified vehicles makeup two-thirds of sales worldwide by 2030. That includes having more Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) such as the Honda Clarity, which runs on an electric motor, gas engine, or a combination of both.

Honda has been ahead of the curve on greener solutions since the start of the new millennium, introducing hybrid models in the year 2000. Honda Canada was the first to do so and, in the 2019 Honda Insight, you have a vehicle with refined power and trusted fuel efficiency.

Finally, the Honda Canada Foundation, through a partnership with Forest Recovery Canada, has ensured over 180,000 trees have been planted worldwide. These initiatives are excellent ways to offset emissions and establish thriving forests in Canada.

Honda Canada’s many affiliates, including Goderich Honda, are fully dedicated to ensuring you drive and live green for years to come. Visit Goderich Honda to drive away with one of Honda’s environmentally friendly vehicles.
